Desert

“The Sahara, a land of contrasts and extremes. A place of wonder, and unforgettable scenes. It’s harsh, yet beautiful, where few dare to tread. A land that leaves an impact, long after one has left.” – N. Ellis

Sahara (صحراء) means desert or wilderness in Arabic. The world’s largest hot desert, the Sahara, in northern Africa is almost the size of the entire continental United States and covers 80 per cent of Algeria. It is one of my favorite places on earth, especially Djanet, also known as the paradise, a province bordering Niger and Libya and home to the proud Tuareg people.

Infinite and borderless, the desert embraces you with its silence, splendor, and magic. It puts things into perspective, the human-being becomes small in the space between earth and sky, the sun and the moon. Each step is lonely, each step is a success…a lesson for life.

With lunar landscapes, home to wind-sculpted rocks and dunes, stargazing feels like being on another planet. Enveloped in the calming silence of the desert, seeing the night sky without light pollution blocking the view is a scenery that one always will remember. It all comes to life before your eyes, a performance unlike any other.
